Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) has launched cop31.comu.edu.tr, a dedicated institutional web portal presenting its scientific, educational and societal contributions in preparation for the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), which Türkiye will host in Antalya from 9 to 20 November 2026.

The portal brings together ÇOMÜ’s research, applied projects, educational programmes, student initiatives and institutional good practices in the fields of climate change, sustainability and green transition. It is designed to facilitate knowledge-sharing, encourage youth engagement and strengthen cooperation among universities, public institutions, international organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

From Campus-Based Solutions to Global Climate Action
A central component of the platform is the ÇOMÜ Green Transition Living Lab, which provides an interdisciplinary environment for developing, testing and showcasing innovative sustainability solutions. Its areas of focus include zero waste, clean energy, food security, smart agriculture, sustainable textiles, environmental monitoring, climate-resilient cities and youth climate action.

Through the Living Lab approach, ÇOMÜ aims to connect academic knowledge with practical implementation and to promote solutions that can be adapted to different local, national and international contexts.

A Green Transition Model Rooted in Shared Values
The portal also highlights the Turquoise Green Transition Model, developed through cooperation between ÇOMÜ and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

Drawing inspiration from the values of Ahilik, collective endeavour, justice, solidarity, responsible production and harmony with nature, the model seeks to combine Türkiye’s cultural heritage with contemporary approaches to sustainability and climate action.

The cooperation framework encompasses basic and advanced training programmes, project mentoring, technical capacity development and institutional knowledge exchange. Activities undertaken with the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies, known as Green University, and Urgench State Pedagogical Institute in Uzbekistan demonstrate the model’s potential to support regional academic cooperation and capacity-building.

Contributing to Science Diplomacy and Regional Cooperation
Through its COP31-focused institutional activities, ÇOMÜ seeks to contribute to Türkiye’s climate diplomacy by strengthening scientific cooperation, promoting youth participation and sharing university-based green transition practices with international partners.

The newly launched portal will serve as a dynamic platform where ÇOMÜ’s preparations, events, publications, projects and collaborative activities related to COP31 will be regularly presented to national and international audiences.

Guided by the motto “From Science to the Field, from Local to Global,” ÇOMÜ invites researchers, students, institutions and stakeholders to explore the platform and contribute to an inclusive, evidence-based and cooperative green transition.
